About Kevin James I work from Stourbridge, a few miles south-west of Birmingham, providing local businesses and individuals with a variety of PC-based services. These include:
I have been programming various models of computer for over twenty years. In 1991, I started my own business, producing PC software and technical documentation.
My interest in technical writing began when researching at The University of Birmingham in the 1980s. After attaining my doctorate in applied physics, I continued writing academic papers and technical manuals while working as a Research Consultant in Birmingham and then as a Software Engineer in Wolverhampton. In the course of my work, I have authored and illustrated many technical documents. These range from peer-reviewed scientific publications to a full-length book on data-acquisition and control systems. The latter was recently published in the UK and USA by Butterworth-Heinemann. Much of my authoring work is geared toward producing technical manuals, user guides and training material for electronic and software products. Web Design Over the last few years an increasing number of clients have asked for this service, both for advertising and for product support. I initially exploited the web as a medium for presenting and distributing technical support documentation, although I have since produced many other types of web site. These include sites for product marketing, company promotion and point of sale, as well as non-profit and general interest sites, and even personal web sites for individuals. I now have some considerable experience of the numerous facets of web-site design. By applying the programming and writing skills I have acquired during my career (as well as my long-standing interest in graphic art and technical illustration), I am able to supply and maintain a broad range of high-quality web sites at minimal cost. Most of my sites are produced primarily by direct coding in HTML, together with CSS and client-side JavaScript. Where appropriate, I also take advantage of the power offered by visual development tools, server-side VBScript and ASP. These tools combine with my own comprehensive DHTML library to enhance design flexibility and provide you with the added benefits of a highly efficient development cycle and consequent cost savings.
